World Bank's CEO: driving global impact

Ajay Banga embarked on his five-year tenure as President of the World Bank Group on June 2, 2023, following his distinguished career and notable achievements. Prior to his role as Vice Chairman at General Atlantic, he held the esteemed position of President and CEO at Mastercard, a renowned global organization employing nearly 24,000 dedicated individuals. During his tenure at Mastercard, he spearheaded the establishment of the Center for Inclusive Growth, an initiative aimed at fostering equitable and sustainable economic development and financial inclusion worldwide. Ajay Banga's contributions extended beyond the realm of his professional endeavors. He served as Honorary Chairman of the International Chamber of Commerce, assuming the role of Chairman from 2020 to 2022. In 2021, he became an advisor to General Atlantic's climate-focused fund, BeyondNetZero, from its inception. As Co-Chair of the Partnership for Central America, he played a pivotal role in a coalition of private organizations striving to enhance economic opportunities for underserved populations in El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras. Additionally, he served on the Boards of the American Red Cross, Kraft Foods, and Dow Inc. Ajay Banga's commitment to societal progress is evident through his co-founding of The Cyber Readiness Institute and his Vice Chairmanship at the Economic Club of New York. His outstanding contributions have been recognized through various prestigious awards and honors. Notably, he received the Foreign Policy Association Medal in 2012, the Padma Shri Award from the President of India in 2016, and the Ellis Island Medal of Honor and the Business Council for International Understanding's Global Leadership Award in 2019. Most recently, in 2021, he was bestowed with the Distinguished Friends of Singapore Public Service Star.
